Types of activities Research information produced is used to strengthen people’s wellbeing and to develop social and health policy at local, regional, national and international levels. Research findings benefit advocacy and development work, support decision-making processes, activate public discussion and serve as learning material. Established research publication modes are the Sociobarometer and the NGO barometer, both published annually, and the Regional Welfare Analyses, based on citizens interviews, and brought forward since the mid- nineteen- nineties. The Citizens Barometer 2009 is Federations´s first nation-wide research project investigating people’s views on a large number of social and health issues in Finland. The Federation also produces research reports and evaluation studies, and also publishes other research publications in the social and health field. The research methods used are based on large-scale research surveys. Central values of the Federation’s research activities are: • PEOPLE-ORIENTATION. Our focus points are the needs and views of the citizens, especially those people who are facing most problems in society. • RESEARCH ETHICS AND QUALITY We accomplish our research projects according to highest standards regarding research ethics and quality. • PREDICTABILITY AND SENSITIVITY Situation-based sensitivity in acknowledging changes in society and in choosing research topics and –methods. • INDEPENDENCE. Our research activities are based on the core tasks of the Federation as civil society association. • SUSTAINABILITY AND KEEPING UP TO DATE. • We develop our research work towards sustainability and producing a long-term impact, and are focused on keeping in touch with current developments of society. • USEFULNESS. We produce research information that is of relevance and adaptable.
